Just Jordan

Bonjour! Je m'appelle Jordan. Some people like to call me Lil Jordan, or even Baby J. I am 15 years old, and I am a sophomore currently attending King College Prep. Jaguars! #2017!.... My grades starting off this current year are okay, they aren't my best, and I know I can do better, so that's what I'm striving for. I love the color blue, clothes, music, food, and mostly I LOVE MYSELF and the rapper Lil Durk I like making others laugh, and I like being around happy people, and I really hate when people come around me, and they complain about everything, or just change everyone's mood... Like UGHHHHHH! just get away from me if you do that, but other than that I am a very nice and lovable person, until you do the wrong thing to me. Let's talk about my future, I want to go to Clark University, or Spelman, I want to major in Medicine, and I wan to become a pediatrician. 
     I'm here because I do want to interact my life more with science, and as I am here I am learning more about science, and more new things pertaining  to health science. I do kind of like science now being in the program, and some things I can now relate to. I also came to this program to meet new people, and be able to open to a new group. Something that interests me is how everything is just brought out today, and how a lot of things I never heard of or was never thought about when I was younger, is now something popular today. For example the type of clothes people wear today I didn't think it would become a big deal about who is wearing what. Also things people do too, I feel like peer pressure is now becoming more and more effective today.

Health Science Explorers LOVE Chicago!

Hey guys!~Chicago is very exciting in the summer...not only for our program, but for our city as a whole. This summer HSE (Health Science Explorers) traveled to some great places! Like Loyola University, Northwestern University, The Planetarium, a Farmers Market and the list goes on!

At our trip to Loyola University, HSE had the privilege to view the beautiful campus, meet wonderful inspiring students who lived on campus, and also chatted with the admissions office about scholarships, requirements, and programs avalible for incoming freshman. We loved Loyola, also HSE had the oppurtunity to examine human femurs bones which was pretty cool. Dr.Grauer, a forensic anthropologist, was our host for the bone lab.

The  quote from above explains the our trip to the farmers market. HSE met and interviewed more than fifteen farmers from Michigan, Wisconsin and Illinois. HSE asked questions like what made you become a farmer? Is farming a hobby? Can the food bought here be sold possibly in stores?  One Farmer explained the reason he participates in farmers market , because he love to make people happy, and also he only want to provide the BEST Foods for his customers. That was exactly what he did. Some foods sold there at the farmers markets are avalible in stores. Majority of the venders where family oriented . Visiting the Farmers market inspired hse to expand their brands , and hopefully one day one of our teens may join!

Meet Devonte

Wassup Homies... I'm an "I-phone" user ahaa. My name is Devonte, Urban teen from Chicago & currently a junior in high school!

Growing up with a lot of siblings & a single mom, I had to find my own identity, which I'm still learning about til this today. Opportunities and attention wasn't offered so I had to Take it! Being on my I-phone, which I love!!!, one day granted me my wish; a summer job in downtown Chicago. Gallery 37 is a place I've called home now for four seasons (summer, fall , winter & spring).

Being apart of Health Science Explorers has led to many friendships, job opportunities, and has opened me up to learning more new things  about my health and how science is all around us! Gallery 37 wasn't my first job experience although, by far its been my best!

I have interned for a local teen magazine known as "True-Star". Working with the editorial team I worked with a professional journalist. The instructor there taught me how to 1) capture my audience, 2) keep deadlines, and 3) build my writing portfolio. Working there for a year before Gallery put me in a position to work hard for my positions and don't be afraid to branch out!

Next year I'll be a senior in High School and I'll be looking forward to attending college to major in my dream career, running my mouth and becoming a broadcast journalist. Follow my blog posts to read more revealing information about my Health-Science experiences and much more!
